PPA Drug Information, including PPA Lawsuits

Information provided by PPA Lawyers at Cappolino Dodd Krebs LLP

PPA, or phenylpropanolamine, has been widely used as a nasal decongestant (in over-the-counter and prescription drug products) and for weight control (in over-the-counter drug products). A Yale University School of Medicine study reports that taking PPA increases the risk of hemorrhagic stroke (bleeding into the brain or into tissue surrounding the brain) in women. Men may also be at risk. These PPA side effects can be very dangerous. Although the risk of hemorrhagic stroke is low, the FDA has significant concerns because of the seriousness of a stroke and the inability to predict who is at risk. These concerns may lead to PPA lawsuits.

Decongestants that contained PPA (phenylpropanolamine) include:

  • Alka-Seltzer Plus
  • Comtrex
  • Contac
  • Dimetapp
  • Robitussin
  • Tavist-D
  • Triaminic

Weight-control drugs that contain PPA (phenylpropanolamine ) include:

  • Acutrim
  • Dexatrim

The FDA has taken steps to remove PPA from all drug products and has asked drug companies to stop marketing products that include PPA. Still, many people may have suffered from the unpredictable side effects of this drug. If you or a loved one was injured after using a drug containing PPA, you may have grounds for a PPA lawsuit; please contact a PPA lawyer at our law firm today for a free consultation.
